Michael McDowell was at the Brickyard on Sunday in a race he knew he could win by beating Chase Elliott at the Verizon 200 and taking the NASCAR Cup Series playoff.

The number 34 Front Row Motorsports driver led 54 of the 82 laps of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway race, received only one caution in the race, and ran under the green flag for the final 77 laps. “My family came to a race we thought we could win,” said Michael McDowell, hugging his wife and children after getting out of Ford. “We think we can win this.

Michael McDowell’s second position is convincing. After a lap 6 restart, he passed his pole-sitter Daniel Suárez and held the lead as McDowell held the lead until lap 17. 34 Mustangs for green.

After making his second stop on lap 49, Michael McDowell passed Bubba Wallace on lap 53 to regain the lead and held on for the rest of the race. 29 laps cut McDowell’s 4-second lead to zero.
The finish time was 937 seconds, but that’s the closest the 2020 champions have ever reached.

“I tried to calm myself down,” said Michael McDowell. “I thought it would be a warning late in the race, I didn’t want to burn my stuff. I just wanted to keep my distance.

“Then when I got in the car (Elliott) turned the Close on and I was pushing. but I can’t believe it.

Michael McDowell currently has victories at the Daytona (2021 Daytona 500) and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, two of the most iconic venues in the sport. He stopped Ford on the road, winning the race for the first time since Ryan Blaney’s first victory. He competes at the Charlotte Roval in 2018. “But keep going on the road to victory. no family, it’s very difficult.

“So we choose and we choose. We came to the game we thought we won… I’m so happy… I think we can show our way (to the game) but in the car, we trained yesterday. Then I thought, man, we. If we can get the running position and keep it going, we have a good chance of winning.

That’s what McDowell did. After Suarez beat Michael McDowell 17th in the pitlane, McDowell chased down the #1 spot. The 99 Chevrolet reached the end of the second stage on lap 35. Danny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski’s car.

Most of the race was a three-man fight between McDowell, Elliott, and Suarez, but Suarez pitted on lap 49 when his left front wheel landed on the airsoft hose. Precious time wasted. Chaos cost Suarez seconds and a chance to win.

“We win as a team, we lose, that’s all I can say”, Suarez saved third place. “These people got the car very fast.
I think we were a little behind in the first edit, but then we got a little better.

“But I always think I’m one step behind the 9th and 34th rows and we have this problem when my car finally starts again.
All we can do is work hard, improve cars like this, and I’ll do it to win the race.

Elliott generously commended McDowell and No. 9 Chevrolet needs support. 14 Put yourself in a good position to move to 1 (turn).

“Appreciate your effort, man. Our Napa Chevrolet is very, very good. I just need a little more but make it a little shorter. But thanks to Michael, man. He did a great job. Race well and make no mistakes, that’s all you have to do to win.
