Canada eliminated from FIFA Women’s World Cup came as a shocked and in tears.

Olympic champions Canada suffered a disappointing 4-0 loss to Australia on Monday. The Canadian defense was clear in the first half with the support of Hayley Raso. The first half was to be 3-0 but Australia’s third goal was counted offside.

Canada looked angry when they didn’t shoot for goal in the first half.

Things happened when Mary Fowler made the score 3-0 in the 58th minute. Steph Catley put salt in her wounds when video replays confirmed she had scored in stoppage by fouling Canadian Jessie Fleming at the edge of the box.

Veteran midfielder Sophie Schmidt, who had previously said she would quit international football, said after the game she was “dead, heartbroken”.

“I’m very happy. I think we put in early risers to watch the game,” she added, referring to 6 a.m.
ET football. “Australia came out strong and executed the game plan poorly. They kept it strong.”

Fleming and defender Vanessa Giles could not hold back their tears while speaking to reporters.

“It was a bad night,” said Fleming. “I’m just disappointed. We have international players and international fans, but I don’t think we represented them well enough tonight. I think there’s more to this team, the show is great. There’s nothing like tonight.”

“The Australians have outstripped us today, there’s no hiding it,” Giles said.
